The Defunding of Affordable Housing in California
Updated June 2020 | Embarcadero Institute
Historically, local Redevelopment Agencies (RDAs) have been central to state funding of affordable housing. RDA revenue came from local property taxes and 20% of that revenue was required to be spent on affordable housing. However, severe funding cuts by Sacramento to RDAs have exacerbated the affordable housing crisis. This short report and corresponding data explore how funding for affordable housing has declined, as well as the sources of funding still available at the state and federal level.
Data includes:
- Affordable Funding Overview – All Sources
- Low Income Housing Tax Credit Programs
